Northern Straight Dancer

I seem to be fascinated with the Northern Straight Dancers. Presently I am trying to prove that I am related to a Pottowatami Chief from Iowa. There is much documentation on him in Decatur County.

Fireworks

I feel I have the cowboy seal of approval on this painting. I had one old cowboy who used to ride drag on a trail drive say "OW! That Looks painful!" another old cowboy who used to break horses said "Now I remember What I didn't like about riding horses. For information about prints ldwmonkey@yahoo.com

The Train

Unfortunately, this one cannot be sold. I have just learned that it was stolen or sold without my permission also without my getting any of the proceeds of the sale. At the moment I am researching what my legal rights are regarding this issue. I would appreciate any leads I can get in the recovery of this painting. One of my favorite things to paint are horses. This one has gotten rave reviews from even the toughest critics. John Brandenburg of the "Daily Oklahoman" had this to say "More thoughtful is the mood of three cowboys on horseback who seem to be watching "The Train" pass them by and possibly their way of life in front of a magnificent mountain range." Indian Baby

Every time I go to a powwow there are so many beautiful children dressed in such beautiful regalia. Although all children are beautiful to me the pudgy cheeks of the Indian baby make me want to try to figure out how to hide them in my camera case or under my shawl and take them home with me(not that I ever would). Native Americans have always felt that their true treasure is their child. At the powwows you can see this. While most would not put an $500 + outfit on a toddler or even a child of any age for that matter. You will regularly see many of the children dressed so. Before you think that they are competing many of the powwows are not competitions at all or only for a select group of adult males or females.

Bullrider

I am very pleased to be able to make this available to be sold after many years of it being off the market. I don't normally paint bull riders. I was engaged to a bull rider when I was younger. Realized that he loved the bull more than he loved me. But as many of you know I paint what GOD wants me to paint. I learned a long time ago not to question or refuse what he wants me to do. When I paint the rodeoer I tend to paint them falling off it is not because I don't like or respect those who compete in the rodeos. On the contrary I have the upmost respect for them. My brother used to take me to rodeos every weekend when i was young. I noticed that it was when the rider fell off for just a moment until he/she got up all breathing stopped in the arena. You could almost feel your heart stop as you waited nervously for him to be all right.

20th Century Cherokee

Todum Hair is one of the few Cherokees that are alive today that actually are on the Dawes Roll. Although he is full blooded Cherokee when he goes to the powwows he comes in Plains Indian regalia. All the tribes throughout history have always been quick to adapt. The Cherokee are no different. The original painting that I did of Todum Hair is in the permanent collection at the Cherokee Heritage Museum. Since he isn't in traditional Cherokee regalia they haven't placed him in the front part of the museum. They have a policy that any Cherokee in the main section of the museum must be in traditional Cherokee regalia.

The Last Comanche Codetalker, Charles Chibitty

Charles Chibitty (November 20, 1921 - July 20, 2005) was a Comanche code talker who used his native language to relay messages for the Allies during World War II. Chibitty, and 16 other Comanches had been recruited by the U.S. military for this purpose since Comanche was a language that was entirely unknown to the Germans, who were unable to decipher it. In a formal ceremony at the Pentagon on November 20, 2001, Don Rumsfeld presented Mr. Chibitty with the Knowlton Award in recognition of his significant contributions for the military intelligence efforts. The last time I was privileged to see Charles Chibitty was at the Red Earth Festival 2003 when he received the prestigious 2003 Red Earth Ambassador of the Year Award. It was there that I got up the nerve to ask his permission to photograph him and paint his portrait.
